OCTOBER FEATURE - Wurr
Description: A brief synopsis of the comic: The world has been divided into two, to the beautiful and colorful lands of dogs, and a dark and murky Crater Valley which is inhabited by monstrous hellhounds. There has been a war between the two in the past, but the invading hounds were driven back to the Crater and peace was restored. Years have passed since then, and now a small pack of hounds, lead by three-eyed and big-fanged (and speech defected) Iacar, living near the edge of the Crater is facing their worst fears. The territory of their neighboring pack has been taken over by fearsome monster-rabbits, and now that pack is driving Iacar and his mates away from their home. And if that wasn't already bad enough, they have only one direction to go to: To the Outside, to the lands of ... DOGS!
FeralComics.com Review: “Wurr” by E. Jokinen isn't a cliché concerning the pretty or beautiful. Its characters are ugly, mishapen beasts for whom “hellhound” is an apt description. They are the descendents of a race pushed into a desolate mountain territory by the good and pure dogs who fought demonic beasts. Yet, this rendition of history is questionable. Wurr asks whether appearance is a good judge of character and if hellhounds really deserve their satanic moniker. The inner squabbling between a small pack shows off a varied stable of characters all with their own mannerisms, talents, and disabilities. Iacar sports a lisp, but is a caring leader. Crippled can barely walk, but her hands are small and dexterous. The cast is large, but each one carries a personality demonstrated within their first few lines of dialogue. Thanks to this strong characterization, even non-action scenes provide plenty of entertainment and draw the reader further into the story. The technical skill displayed by Jokinen helps as well. Her solid pencil work imbues great design and texture into each character. The drama is strong, even though the story is still in exposition, it's a compelling read that begs for more pages. Keep the comic going, Jokinen. We're curious where Iacar's little pack goes and who these so-called “good dogs” truly are.

FEBRUARY FEATURE - Nature of Nature's Art
Description: Animals, in attempting to build a complex society, come to grips with the limitations of modern psychology. Will they turn their bright faces away or towards the stolid haze of math?
FeralComics.com Review: Finally, animal enthusiasts have a stylized fighting comic to call their own. Zachary Braun's fearless martial arts epic Nature of Nature's Art follows the social turmoil of a sentient animal community set in an alternative universe. Students of the local university synthesize their knowledge of biology and martial arts in metanoia, their master thesis, while sometimes incorporating a little paranormal flare into their techniques to foster ingenious or devastating abilities. While developing his own metanoia, a maned wolf named Meander stumbles upon a plot by Misters Rule and Polarizing to create an army of drones severed of free will and ready to mobilize against any threat. Joined with feline companion Quintet, the young scholars fight to uphold the moral code they were raised on and end this devious scheme. But should ethics be abandoned for safety? Are sub-intelligent beasts due civil rights? If the plot doesn't intrigue you, then the colorful fights and exotic layouts of NofNA will captivate, guaranteed.
